The Beginner Bakers Learning Library
A free, curated collection of trustworthy resources to help you learn how to bake, and understand why your recipes work!
If you want to improve your baking but don’t know what to learn first (or who online you can actually trust) then this library is for you.
I’m always banging on about learning how to bake properly: not just blindly following recipes, but understanding ingredients, recognising techniques and learning how to think when something goes wrong. I’m still on that learning journey too, and although I don’t have all the answers, I can try to help direct you towards solid sources that will help you find those answers for yourself :) So that’s what I’m doing here!
Inside the library, you’ll find:
A 12-stage “Start Here” learning path covering the baking fundamentals
Links to quick guides and videos explaining common baking methods
Free online baking courses
Books that teach technique and baking science
Reliable baking websites and blogs
YouTube channels and social media creators worth learning from
Purposeful recipes chosen to help you practise specific skills
This is by no means an exhaustive list, and I’ll continue developing it as I discover more resources worth sharing. Nothing included is sponsored; each recommendation has been chosen because it offers clear methods, useful cues, thoughtful testing or enough detail to help you genuinely learn. I would love this to become an ver evolving resource built by all of us, so if you have a resource you feel should be included, please let me know.
Treat the library as a menu rather than homework. Choose something you want to understand, learn from one strong source, put it into practice and make a few notes about what you noticed. That is how you begin moving from simply following recipes to baking with confidence and intention.
Please note that some resources are based in the US, where flour names, butter composition, measurements and oven conventions can differ from those used in the UK. Always check these details before converting or substituting :)
I’ve put this together as a big thank you for your support, I am very grateful to you, and I hope this helps you somewhat on your baking journey.
